Dear Happy M5 Customer,
M5's Colocation facility is upgrading it's core routers over the
next week. The current Cisco 7500 routers will be replaced with Cisco GSR
12000 series routers. This is a fantastic upgrade. The 12000 series routers
are Cisco's highest performing units, and are often affectionately called
the "BFR 12000" (Big Freakin' Router) due to it's imposing size (72" tall,
390lbs) and extreme performance. They are scalable to over a TERABIT per
second each. Soon, your packets will flow through a redundant pair of these
units, serving to improve what is already one of the fastest and lowest
latency networks on the West Coast.
The first maintenance period will be between 2:00am and 3:00am on
4/8/04. During this time, there may be some periods of sub-optimal routing
while operating on just one core router and routing between Qwest, Level3,
and UUNet. Loss of connectivity is not expected.
The second maintenance period will be between 1:00am and 2:00am on
4/13/04. During this time, there may be some periods of sub-optimal
routing while operating on just one core router and routing between Verio
and XO during this time. Loss of connectivity is not expected.
The last planned outage was 88 days ago for a kernel upgrade,
which required a reboot of the hosting servers. There have been no
unplanned outages since that time.
Thank you !
Mike
